At the heart of the C2CC movement are the people and organizations who commit their time and resources for our common goal. Here’s what they have to say about us.
What our supporters have to say about the C2CC:
“C2CC’s work over the last few years is helping to bring the public voice to cancer control efforts in Canada. Through C2CC’s many efforts, including raising awareness of cancer control through the Cancer Day of Action in provincial legislatures, as well as GO PUBLIC – the 1st Global Leadership Forum for Cancer Control – C2CC is playing an important role in helping to build effective public awareness in all aspects of cancer control. Engaging Canadians in the importance of all aspects of cancer control is critical to reducing the impact of cancer in this country, and C2CC makes an important contribution.”
Jessica Hill, CEO and Dr. Simon Sutcliffe,
Chair, Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC):
“In every endeavor in which we have collaborated in our enduring partnership, C2CC has demonstrated that they are an organization with integrity and who hold themselves highly accountable. Time and time again, C2CC has demonstrated that our working relationship is built upon a shared goal and common values. Cancer Care Nova Scotia is supportive of C2CC and its efforts to seek funding for their innovative strategies to assure quality cancer control In Canada.”
Theresa Marie Underhill, M.Ed., MHSA,
Chief Operating Officer, Cancer Care Nova Scotia:
What our member organizations have to say about the C2CC Action Plan:
“I am writing to provide the enthusiastic support of the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology for the proposed C2CC national cancer screening campaign. The C2CC screening campaign is aligned with the strategic priorities of CARO and we have worked on similar public engagement efforts with C2CC. “
Dr. Matthew Parliament, MD, FRPSC,
President, Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology:
“We have previously worked with C2CC to advance the implementation of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control and to build awareness of cancer control issues among decision makers at the federal and provincial level and have established a productive relationship based on shared values, goals and methods.”
Dr. Renaud Whittom,
President, Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists
“As the national professional organization representing oncology nursing in Canada, our organization’s vision to be the nursing leader in cancer control nationally aligns with the efforts of C2CC to maximize opportunities for Canadians to live free of the burden of cancer.”
Jennifer Wiernikowski, RN (EC), MN, CON(C), President,
Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology
What key opinion leaders have to say about C2CC:
“I must admit to being amazed by the impact of the 2010 Go Public tour. Clearly a chord was struck with university students wherever we went. They were concerned, they were engaged, they were ready to be mobilized. It was evident that the cause of controlling cancer was a deeply felt campus issue. I’ve been speaking hither and yon at universities for many a year, but rarely have audiences cared so much about the subject matter. I really have to congratulate the organizers for their timing and their vision. It was a pleasure working with the Campaign to Control Cancer and I look forward to speaking at another series of university events in 2011.”
Stephen Lewis,
Founder and Chair, The Stephen Lewis Foundation
“I wanted to congratulate you on a great effort yesterday. From your volunteer management (in the face of TTC issues) to your enthusiasm in the MPP/Minister meetings to the fine reception, the Day of Action ran very smoothly and provided a great experience for participants on both sides of the meeting tables. I’m proud to have been a part of it.”
Greg Sarney
Ontario Cancer Day of Action Volunteer
“Congratulations to a job well done! That was an incredible event yesterday. The number of MPPs visited in one day – 40+ – was more than any organization I have worked with. Typically, if we see 12-15, it’s a success. C2CC is the best organized Day in the Legislature group I have ever worked with!”
Ron Ross
Ontario Cancer Day of Action Volunteer
“Having had one cancer survivor and 3 less fortunate cancer victims in my immediate family, I want to thank you for allowing me the privilege of taking part in this event. Our messages resonated well and your hard behind the scenes work made my job very simple and very rewarding. Looking forward to helping move this forward and seeing our goal of a joint party resolution become a reality.”
Grant Gunn
Ontario Cancer Day of Action Volunteer
“I would be remiss if I didn’t tell all three of you how impressed I was by the passion, the dedication and the organization you all put into last week’s events. You guys are a fantastic team, and I was very pleased to play even a small part on the day’s activities. Congratulations to all of you for your efforts and your accomplishments. You have much to be proud of.”
Ross Wallace
Cancer Day of Action Volunteer
“Absolutely fantastic day yesterday in Halifax. I was proud to be associated with people like you that are turning words into action. You should be very proud. I hope to get to work with you both again in the future and we are happy to continue supporting your efforts.“
Todd McDonald
Cancer Day of Action Volunteer
“The BC Finance Committee’s report has come out today, summarizing the 600 submissions gathered over the past couple of months around the province. And I am thrilled to tell you that out of those 600 submissions, the C2CC’s presentation was highlighted in the report: This is pretty sweet to read. I always felt it was worthwhile to present to the Committee but this is further proof of that… validation of our presentation, and of us as an organization. Of course that doesn’t guarantee that our recommendations will be adopted by the government but hey, they listened.”
Jane Akizuki
Cancer Day of Action Volunteer
What politicians had to say about the C2CC Cancer Day of Action:
“Today is the second annual Cancer Day of Action. A number of us MLAs were pleased to meet with C2CC volunteers earlier today during the lunch hour. I would ask them to rise as I call their names and to remain standing until all have been introduced. Then perhaps we could greet them with the accolades that they are so due.
Dr. Glenn Hundleby, chair of the new Wellspring Edmonton, whose mission is to provide a comprehensive range of cancer supports; Mr. Harley Ast, board member of the Canadian Prostate Cancer Network; Jill Zaparyniuk, who is a nurse in oncology at the Cross Cancer Institute; Mr. Bill Holt, who’s the treasurer of the multiple myeloma society in Calgary; and, finally, I’d like to introduce Ms Carol Westberg, a mother of three, a grandmother of seven, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in September of 2004 and whose cancer drug is now covered by Alberta health care due to the efforts of this campaign to control cancer in 2008.
God bless you all for being here and for the outstanding work you’re doing for so many people in our province and elsewhere.
Thank you, all.”
Introduction to the House by The Honourable Gene Zwozdesky
Cancer Day of Action 2010
“Mr. Speaker, I want to tell the honourable member and all members of the House that as we go forward working with our federal, provincial and territorial colleagues across the country to get a catastrophic drug program in place, this government will not be sitting idle waiting for something that is going to occur in the future.
Mr. Speaker, we have a new cancer drug fund here in Nova Scotia. An additional $10 million was put into that fund this year and this ensures that cancer patients, for example, who require drugs and intravenous therapies are able to access these drugs. We will continue to work on the national level while delivering better health care to Nova Scotians here at home.”
The Honourable Maureen MacDonald, MLA
Nova Scotia Minister of Health, Cancer Day of Action 2010
